BRAXTON COUNTY TEACHER ARRESTED - Accused Of Having Sex With Students

(03/04/2005)
A Braxton County Middle School teacher has been charged with having sex with four children under the age of 16.

State Police filed eight charges Wednesday of third-degree sexual assault against 37-year-old Toni Lynn Woods of Strange Creek.

The criminal complaint says she has admitted to having sexual intercourse with three different juveniles a total of four times and oral sex with two juveniles a total of four times.

The complaint does not indicate the ages or genders of the children. It does say they were students, but it does not say which school they attended.

Braxton County Prosecutor William C. Martin says the State Police investigation began upon a complaint from a family member of one of the children.

Woods was arraigned Wednesday, she is being held in the Central Regional Jail on $100,000 bond.

Martin says Woods has resigned her job as a sixth grade teacher and permanently surrendered her teaching certificate.

Martin says the sexual encounters were consenting, however it is a crime for an adult to have sex with someone under age 16.
