BRAXTON WOMAN DIES IN FIRE - Five-Year-Old Roane Girl Identified In Fire

The state has been plagued with house fires, several of them connected to homicide.

State Police are investigating a weekend house fire near Sutton that killed an elderly woman. The victim has been identified as 82-year-old Virginia M. Evans.

The fire broke out at about 6 p.m. Saturday in Evan's home, which was described as a mobile home with an addition. The residence was described as total loss.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's office.

Police have released the name of a 5-year-old Roane County girl who was killed this weekend when the house she was staying in with her grandmother was destroyed by fire.

Megan Lynn Braham of Spencer was spending Friday night with her grandmother, Verlie Payne, at a residence on W.Va. 21 near Sandyville.

Police said the West Virginia Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
