POLICE RECOVER OVER $13,000 FOLLOWING GLENVILLE ROBBERY

(10/21/2004)
The armed robbery of Glenville's Foodland resulted in the thieves getting $13,339, all of which was returned to the store after a high speed chase east on Route 5.

The two men fled into the woods near Coxs Mill, and were later arrested by authorities.

The Friday night heist was pulled by ex-WVU football players Alvoid Wilson Mays, 38, and Travis Tyrone Garvin, 25, both Morgantown.

Glenville residents said it was the first armed robbery in the county in about 25 years.

The pair drove at a high rate of speed toward the SR 5 and 33/119 intersection where they spotted Lieutenant Sam Cutlip of Glenville's City Police, who was enroute to Foodland after he was alerted about the robbery.

Glenville's police chief said the suspects turned around in the Rite Aid lot and headed toward Burnsville at speeds of 100 miles per hour, with officer Cutlip in pursuit.

Their vehicle then wrecked. State Police used K-9 dog units to locate the suspects over a four hour period.

The men are being held in Central Regional Jail pending $200,000 bond each.
