West Virginia politicians have frequently been a colorful bunch, although their legislative shenanigans have toned down in recent years.

Sometimes the behavior gets outright bizarre.

This is the year of "colorful" candidates.

Republican candidate for governor Joseph Oliverio has been arrested in Charleston charging him with brandishing a deadly weapon.

The 47-year-old Oliverio is accused of using a steak knife to threaten to kill another patron at a Harrison County Red Caboose restaurant in December.

The patron, who was eating with friends when Oliverio came in, was not acquianted with Oliverio.

Witnesses said Oliverio began shouting as soon as he saw the victim at the table. He began cussing him and threatening him and telling him he was going to kill him throughout dinner.

When the victim got up to leave, Oliverio stood up with a steak knife in his hand, pointed it at the man and said he was going to kill him.

The complaint said the victim just kept his eye on him, got his bill, paid it and left.

While he was leaving,Oliverio was still yelling at him.

State Police arrested Oliverio at the Charleston House Holiday Inn last night. He was arraigned in Kanawha County Magistrate Court and released after posting $500 cash, which was ten percent of his bond.
