GRANTSVILLE'S RECORDER RESIGNS - Pleads Guilty To Misdemeanor Charges

(01/07/2004)
Grantsville's town recorder P. Jane Wease has resigned after being charged with misdemeanors related to contributing to the delinquency of minors.

The charge, according to Chief of Police Ron Gordon, was linked to underage drinking.

Wease, who was first appointed to the recorder's position, was elected last May to a two year term.

Grantsville Mayor Neil Blankenship said Wease has been a good public employee, dedicated to doing a good job. "This is an unfortunate situation that has happened," he said.

Wease plead guilty to the charges before Magistrate Teresa Robinson yesterday morning, saying "I made a terrible mistake."

Wease was charged with six offenses of contributing, in addition to one charge of obstructing," said Robinson. The charges stemmed from a party at Wease's residence on January 3rd.

She was fined $1,240.

Grantsville's council will be seeking to appoint a town recorder.
