50-Year-Old Romance Ends In Marriage
A 50-year-old romance of a former Calhoun county man has ended in marriage
of Elba Whytsell of Shreve in Wayne county, Ohio, and Mrs. Mina Starcher
of Copley, Ohio. They were married recently in the Norton Church
of the Nazarene. Both are age 72.
In a story in the Akron Beacon-Journal, the romance is reported to have
started in Barberton in 1917, when the young couple began dating.
After Whytsell returned from World War I they became engaged, but he came
back to West Virginia to take a lumber job and the pair drifted apart.
She married in 1920, and he in 1922 and both raised five children, and
both lost their mates in recent years by death.
Recently they got together to talk over old times, and a week later
he proposed and she consented. Now, after more than 50 years they
are finally wed to each other. |
