An Attempt at Robbery
A few nights ago three or four ruffians made an attempt to break into
the dwelling of James Metz, in the Metz oil field, presumable with intent
to rob him. It was on Mr. Metz's farm that the first oil well was
struck and it was the presumption that he had considerable money in the
house. He may have had, but he also had a good 38-caliber revolver,
which he always keeps in shooting trim, and within easy reach; and when
the intruders noticed he meant business, it suddenly occurred to them that
they were badly needed in some other part of the field. Mr. Metz,
though of considerable age, has a steady nerve and a keen eye, and he says
all persons will be much safer by not prowling around his premises after
night. |
