18TH ANNUAL WIRT COUNTY PIONEER VENDOR DAY IS SATURDAY

Attend the 18th Annual Wirt County Pioneer Day in Elizabeth WV, on Saturday, October 2. The goal of the Elizabeth Beauchamp Chapter Daughters of American Pioneers is to display traditions of the past and create an atmosphere that reflects Wirt County’s rich family history. Vendors may set up on Saturday at 6 a.m.

The opening ceremony starts at 9 a.m. in the stage area. The 2021 Middle School Pioneer Day Essay winner will be announced, the winner will receive $100 cash prize, a plaque and will read their essay to the crowd.

In addition, Wirt County’s 17th VA Calvary will present a memorial tribute to honor Civil War Reenactors who have lost their lives this past year. Deceased soldier’s names will be read, and the memorial ends with a gun salute.

Visit the demonstrator’s booths to witness the making of baskets, apple butter, and blacksmithing.

Yummy foods will be for sale including, funnel cakes, loaded baked potatoes, kettle corn, beans, cornbread, ice cream, hotdogs, and cotton candy.

Don’t miss the unique attractions, Johnny Staats Project on stage at noon. Pioneer Day seating will not be available, please bring your lawn chairs.

Visit with the Mountain Monsters TV Show actors on the museum lawn.

Rocky Point Carriage Rides will be providing buggy rides on Court Street and pause to reflect on your life at the Labyrinth Meditation Path on Robert’s Store lot.

Thomas Entertainment carnival games will be on the Museum lawn. A craft table will provide entertainment for the kids, and a splash in the dunking booth will provide fun for all ages.

At 3 p.m. the Civil War Union and Confederate troops will arrive on Court Street. Soldiers will invade the street to round up spectators for the Civil War skirmish on Robert’s lot. The North and South will engage in a mock battle with muskets and cannons firing. Watching this event will help visitors to understand Wirt County’s role in the Civil War. Please be aware of the noise factor involved with this event.
