MONDAY WV COVID-19 REPORT - Gov. Justice Fears State Will Not Reach Herd Immunity, Predicts 250,000 Will Not Take Vaccine |

| Gov. Jim Justice says with more than 681,000 West Virginians vaccinated with at least one shot, state officials are trying to convince enough of those who still haven’t gotten the COVID vaccine to get the shots in order to reach herd immunity. There is plenty of vaccine now, but not enough people stepping up for an injection. The J&J vaccine is being cleared. The governor said there are about 250,000 West Virginians who will probably never be persuaded to take the shot. It appears that web sites, some political, have issued dozens of conspiracy theories. Historically, West Virginians have taken vaccines to eliminate thyoid, diphtheria, polio and smallpox. It appears that dozens of conspiracy theories, many political in nature, have been taken as factual. he DHHR reported 260 new positive cases. Active cases in the state are at 7,388. The COVID-19 death toll remains at 2,785. The overall positive test rate was 5.21% Monday, and the daily positive test rate was 6.03%. As of Friday, there were 232 residents hospitalized with the virus, including 60 in intensive care and 20 people on ventilators. The data was not updated Monday. There are 508,089 West Virginians who are fully vaccinated. There have been 138,974 people recover from COVID in the state.
