Fauci: "All things considered, we're not in a good place" as America starts the long dark winter.

Coronavirus continues to escalate in West Virginia, particularly in rural areas, with another six deaths reported and hospitalizations approaching the 600 mark.

Calhoun has 23 new cases since last Monday, with 31 active cases reported Monday.

ACTIVE CASES: Roane 56, Clay 19, Braxton 33, Gilmer 51, Ritchie 78, and Wirt 43.

Wirt and Ritchie is leading the state with new infections.

There are currently 91 outbreaks at nursing homes across West Virginia, including nine new outbreaks since Thanksgiving, state health officials said.

WVU Medicine Medicine President and CEO Albert Wright let Justice know that he is “genuinely concerned” that hospitals in the state could be overrun by COVID-19 patients.

Gov. Justice also detailed increases in positive cases at state correctional facilities, including 22 at the Pruntytown Correctional Center in Taylor County.

West Virginia’s death total associated with the virus is now at 735.

The DHHR reported 845 new positive cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 47,842 since the start of the pandemic. There are 16,787 active cases in the state.

Meanwhile, hospitalizations continue to climb with a record 597 as of Sunday, with 162 being treated in intensive care and 76 on a ventilator.

The state’s cumulative positive rate also continues to rise and is at 3.64%, up from 3.61% the previous day. The daily positive percentage rate was at 7.07%.
