MONDAY WV COVID-19 CASES - 114 NEW CASES

Two COVID-19-related deaths in Kanawha County and one in Putnam County were reported Monday as the grim news about the virus continued in West Virginia.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed in a news release the deaths of a 53-year-old woman from Kanawha County, an 86-year-old woman from Kanawha County and a 70-year-old woman from Putnam County.

West Virginia’s death total from the virus is now at 361.

A WV high school football player has sued the state over game interruption, scholarship eligibility.

There were 114 new virus cases reported in the last 24 hours in the state, with the total number of cases now at 16,742. Active cases were up 42 and were listed at 4,330.

Meanwhile, the state’s cumulative positive percentage was down slightly and was at 2.74%, a drop from 2.75%. The daily positive percentage rate was at 1.52%.

Hospitalizations dropped by eight and were at 165 with 60 in intensive care and 28 on a ventilator. Recoveries were up 69 and were at a total of 12,051.

In the latest county alert map, (as of Sunday) Kanawha County remained in gold. Other gold counties were Jackson, Nicholas, Wayne, Mingo, Doddridge and Berkeley.

Counties in orange were Boone, Harrison and Upshur.
