UPDATE: WV HAS 347 NEW CASES COVID-19 SATURDAY - Calhoun Has New Active Cases, Goes Orange,Then Yellow, In-Person School Affected

WV Covid-19 cases are rising in WV as cooler weather comes on, the daily up-tick by 347 cases.

WV continues to lead nation in rate of virus spread, as a prevalent, widespread political meme says the "virus will all be over on election day."

According to the WVDHHR release, Calhoun now has a total of 22 cases, with the current number of active cases affecting whether or not Calhoun Schools will continue to have in-person classes, since the county has gone to Orange.

Calhoun superintendent of schools Kelli Whytsell will release information of the future of in-person attendance Saturday evening.

Using the color-coded chart with schools could create a open-closed situation week by week.

State health officials confirmed two more COVID-19 deaths Saturday morning as West Virginia’s case total increased by 347.

A 90-year old woman from Jackson County and a 74-year old man from Marion County have died from the coronavirus, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. The state’s virus-related death total is now 265.

Officials also confirmed 347 new COVID-19 cases on the day, pushing West Virginia’s active total to 3,031.

Mingo County reports 40 COVID-19 cases in the past week.

The overall positive test rate also jumped Saturday to 2.62%, up from 2.58% the previous day. The daily positive test rate came in at 4.59%.

There are currently 145 residents hospitalized with the virus, including 59 in intensive care and 26 on ventilators.

Recoveries in the state increased to 9,225 on Saturday.
