PM WEDNESDAY: WV COVID-19 CASES RISING WITH 202 REPORTED WEDNESDAY - Two New Calhoun Cases

New coronavirus cases are escalating in West Virginia, where state health officials reported a total of more than 200 new cases in a single day and a growing number of active cases.

USA sees highest daily number of new cases, with southern states facing major outbreaks.

Two new cases were reported in Calhoun.

Mon County has a significant outbreak.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources said the state listed 92 more cases Wednesday afternoon, which combined with the 110 new cases from the morning report brings the total to 202 cases.

Active cases also jumped nearly 60 from the morning report from and were listed at a total of 964 in the afternoon.

The state’s overall positive test rate percentage also is creeping up, with the latest at 1.91%, and the daily positive percentage jumped to 6.14%.

High new positive case numbers also were reported the previous two days, with 63 on Tuesday, and 107 on Monday.

The state now has a total of 3,707 positive virus cases. More than 193,000 have been tested.

DHHR officials said there are currently 48 hospitalizations with 13 in intensive care and seven on a ventilator.
