SUNDAY: 42 NEW CASES IN WV

Health officials confirmed one new coronavirus-related death in the Mountain State Sunday along with 42 new cases.

West Virginia now has 324 total cases as of 10 a.m., according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. Three people have now died in the state as a result of the virus.

The third coronavirus-related death is a 76-year-old man from Monongalia County. The man was associated with the Sundale Long Term Care facility and had underlying health conditions, according to the news release.

The breakdown of cases by county includes two in Barbour, 54 in Berkeley, five in Cabell, three in Greenbrier, six in Hancock, two in Hardy, 24 in Harrison, 14 in Jackson, 21in Jefferson, 51 in Kanawha, five in Logan, 14 in Marion, five in Marshall, four in Mason, three in Mercer, two in Mineral, 49 in Monongalia, three in Morgan, 18 in Ohio, one in Pendleton, one in Pleasants, five in Preston, six in Putnam, four in Raleigh, three in Randolph, two in Roane, three in Tucker, one in Upshur, two in Wetzel, one in Wirt and 10 in Wood.

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice announced Saturday night he is extending an executive order with more stringent coronavirus restrictions for three Eastern Panhandle counties to also include Kanawha, Monongalia and Harrison counties because of their high case counts and potential to become "hot spots."
