MINGO MAN SHOT - Mingo County deputies have a person of interest for the shooting death of a man in the Delbarton area.

Mingo County Sheriff James Smith says a man was found dead after being shot outside of a home along Hell Creek. Smith says the victim did not live at the home

. The call came in around 2:30 p.m., according to the sheriff.

Smith says they are still investigating the circumstances that led to the man's death.

The Mingo County prosecutor is not pressing charges at this time.

AK-47 HOLDER SHOOTS HOUSE - Charleston police are asking the public for help in identifying two suspects after someone fired multiple gunshots from an AK-47-style rifle and struck a home on the West Side.

The suspect fired the weapon outside of a residence about 1 a.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of Wyoming Street, according to a news release from the Charleston Police Department.

A video shows two people approach the porch at the home. One of the suspects knocked on the door and then walked toward the sidewalk. When someone asked, “Who is it?’ the armed suspect shot the weapon multiple times while running away from the scene.

The home was occupied at the time of the shooting, but no injuries were reported. The home was struck by gunfire.

Evidence was obtained at the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.

MAN SHOTS GUN IN HOUSE - Charleston police said they are looking for a suspect who forced way into an apartment at Renaissance Circle and fired a shot.

No one was hit when the incident that occurred Monday night, according to a news release from the Charleston Police Department. Police said officers responded to an apartment about 10 p.m. in the 1300 block of Renaissance Circle to investigate a possible shooting. They determined that a shot had been fired by a suspect who forced his way into an apartment, but no one was wounded by the gunfire.

The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.

Police said there were multiple people inside the apartment at the time when the suspect forced his way inside. One male sustained an abrasion to the left side of his head. He told police he was sitting in a bedroom when he was struck in the face by the suspect and blacked out.

One witness knew the suspect only as “Trap,", about 6 feet tall weighing 175 pounds with short hair.

TEEN ACCIDENTALLY SHOOTS SELF - The Kanawha County Sheriff's Department says it is responding to a home where a 17-year-old accidentally shot himself.

Officials say the incident happened at 134 Riverview Drive on Charleston's west side.

According to the sheriff's department, the accident happened while the teen was cleaning a weapon.

The injury was to the teen's arm. No word on how severe that injury is at this time.

PROHIBITED MEN BUYS GUNS AT GUN SHOW - Two Morgantown men are facing a series of drug and gun charges after being stopped by law enforcement while leaving a gun show at Mylan Park over the weekend.

On Saturday, January 18, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) called troopers from the West Virginia State Police to let them know that the agents were conducting surveillance at the Morgantown Gun Show and had seen two men with known criminal histories buy two handguns in private sales.

The ATF told the state troopers that Kareem Neal, 39, and Curtis Neal, 41, were leaving the area in a Dodge Caliber. The troopers then pulled the pair over on Chaplin Road and ordered both men out of the vehicle. While the men were getting out of the car, a state trooper smelled “a strong odor of raw marijuana emitting from the vehicle,” according to their criminal complaints.

During a search of the car, troopers found a Ruger LCP .380 ACP handgun and a 9mm Hi-Point handgun, along with a glass jar full of what troopers believed to be marijuana, the criminal complaints said. Once at the Morgantown State Police detachment, Curtis Neal told troopers that he had a large bag of heroin and cocaine in his “groin area,” and then handed it over, troopers said. In the bag were 40 stamps of heroin with an estimated street value of $800; a bag of cocaine, estimated to be worth $600 on the street; and several Viagra tablets, according to details in the court documents.

During a review of the men’s criminal histories, state troopers found that Curtis Neal had been convicted of robbery in 1998 and felony drug distribution in 1999, both in Jersey City, NJ, and felony aggravated assault, robbery, burglary and unlawful handgun possession in 2006, in Essex County, NJ, troopers said.

State police also found that Kareem Neal had been convicted of felony obstructing an officer, resisting arrest and possession of heroin on school property, in Newark, NJ in 2010, and felony distribution of heroin on school property, in Jersey City, NJ in 2011, according to his complaint.

Both men are charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, felony unlawful possession of a firearm and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Both men are being held in the North Central Regional Jail, each with bail set at $65,000.

WETZEL CO. MAN SENTENCED ON GUN CHARGES - A Pine Grove man was sentenced to 34 months behind bars Tuesday for firearms charges, U.S. Attorney Bill Powell says.

Joseph Harrison, 49, pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, according to Powell. Harrison, who is prohibited from having a firearm because of prio convictions, admitted to having a .45 caliber pistol with an obliterated serial number and ammunition in June 2019 in Wetzel County.

Assistant U.S. Attorney David J. Perri prosecuted Harrison's case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.

U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided.
