"MISS NETTIE'S PARLOR" FEATURED IN STUMP HOTEL OPEN HOUSE SUNDAY

(08/25/2019)
The Calhoun County Historical Society is holding an open house at the Stump Hotel in Grantsville on Sunday from 2:00-5:00.

The society has been working for many years to restore the historical hotel and furnish it with period pieces and furniture, a flashback to the life and times of Nettie Stump (1872-1958) and her brother, Spavy.

"Nettie Stump (1872-1958) was an outstanding person who had aspirations and dreams, but really didn't want to leave Grantsville," said her nephew, the late Dr. Charles Stump of Daytona, Florida and Grantsville native, who donated the property to the historical society.

Nettie spent her lifetime living in the Stump Hotel. She was a creative person, crafting artifacts, painting and writing poetry, authoring a book of poetry in 1938 - "Trail of my Pen," a compendium of life and history in Grantsville during the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The main floor rooms will be open for viewing — kitchen, dining room, lobby and the recently restored “Miss Nettie’s Parlor.”

The Hotel is furnished with items generously donated by the community. There is no admission charge, but donations will be greatly appreciated.

The open house will be a reminder of life in earlier times.
