NRA CONCEALED WEAPON CARRY ON COLLEGE-UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES LIKELY DEAD

3/6/2019 - A bill that would allow anyone with a concealed carry permit to carry a gun on college campuses has been killed by the West Virginia Senate. The NRA bill has widely been opposed by colleges, universities, students and law enforcement. The Campus Carry Bill was shot down in Senate Finance Tuesday evening. The bill was voted down by a 7 to 9 vote, in a committee room that was packed with both supporters and opponents. While the bill might be dead for now, the Committee does have 24 hours to reconsider it, but right now, that seems unlikely. NRA CONCEALED WEAPON CARRY ON COLLEGE-UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES ON FAST TRACK AGAIN - Widely Opposed By Schools, Law Enforcement ORIGINAL STORY 3-3-2019 - After the Campus Self-Defense Act appeared dead in the House, the NRA bill has been resurrected to be sent to the Senate, on a fast track for legislative passage. The bill, widely opposed by state colleges, universities and law enforcement, would allow concealed weapon carry on school campuses. House members approved the legislation 59-41. Supporters have said the legislation would protect students and give them more security on campus. Opponents, which have included most college and university administrations and law enforcement, have said it would endanger students. Public polling in WV opposes the bill.
