GLENVILLE WOMAN FACING FIVE COUNTS OF CHILD NEGLECT

(01/17/2019)
A Gilmer County woman has been arrested on five counts of child neglect.

Deputies with the Gilmer County Sheriff's Department arrived at a residence on East Valley Drive in Gilmer County on January 3, 2019, to investigate a separate burglary incident involving a man that lived at the home.

Deputies said they were familiar with the home, and had been there before with Child Protective Services in search of the people living there, but were unable to make contact with them.

While at the home on January 3, deputies said they made contact with Cassandra Williams, 32, of Glenville. Deputies said Williams appeared to be under the influence of controlled substances at the residence with five juvenile children.

According to deputies, the house was in horrible condition, and had trash piled in nearly every corner, and had hundreds of bugs crawling around and flying in the air.

Deputies also said that there was old food left on the table and near the sink with bugs everywhere. Additionally, deputies said there were buckets filled with feces in the bathroom and in the bathtub.

Deputies said they also observed that two beds were being used in the home. Williams told deputies that she, a man, and her three male children slept in one bed, and the two female children slept in the other bed.

Deputies said they located a meth pipe and marijuana pipe in the master bathroom. Deputies then said they contacted Child Protective Services and digitally photographed the scene.

Deputies said they then spoke with Williams who advised that she had been using Suboxone without a prescription, and would test positively for Suboxone. Deputies said they advised Williams that there was no sense in the horrible conditions of the home, and that they believed she was under the influence of more than Suboxone.

After a drug screening, Williams tested positively for methamphetamine, amphetamine, marijuana and buprenorphine. Williams admitted to smoking meth around 8 p.m. the evening before, and using marijuana as well.

Child Protective Services removed the five children from the home. Deputies observed the children's teeth and hygiene were in horrible condition. Deputies said that they transported three of the children to the Department of Health and Human Resources, and smelled marijuana on their clothes.

According to a criminal complaint, Williams has been charged with five counts of child neglect creating risk of injury, and five counts of conspiracy.
