| As Hurricane Florence made landfall near Wilmington, North Carolina, Friday morning, National Guard officials, government officials and utility service providers were preparing for the hurricane's potential impact on the Mountain State.
The storm could reach West Virginia as soon as late Sunday, but it is expected to reach the eastern part of the state Monday, Jeff Hovis with the National Weather Service said during a briefing for Governor Jim Justice Friday morning.
At the time of the briefing at 11 a.m., Hovis said the hurricane was predicted to have 40 mph wind gusts and pour between two and four inches of rain in eastern West Virginia, all the way from Mercer County to the Eastern Panhandle.
