WV RELEASES SMARTER BALANCED SCORECARD FOR STATE SCHOOLS - Calhoun Results Released

(09/17/2018)
The nation has been suffering from an educational crisis for years, still continuing, as educational leaders go from one accountability system to another in an effort to make the outcomes look better.

The 2017 Nations Report Card showed that only 37 percent of 12 graders tested proficient in reading, and only 25% in math.

At the same time, graduation rates have increased.

The West Virginia Department of Education just released a report that shows how well or poorly each school in the state is performing in certain areas.

"The West Virginia Schools Balanced Scorecard is designed to provide a clear snapshot of school performance and growth from year to year," the report stated.

"Each public school in the state will receive a scorecard that gives parents, students, educators and communities clear and concise information on where their school is excelling and in what areas their school may need to improve."

Calhoun, compared to the six regional counties, was comparable in outcomes and in some cases exceeded those counties.
