CALHOUN SCHOOL BUS INVOLVED IN MT. ZION CRASH - Students Escape Injury

3:35 PM 5/22/2018 - A Calhoun school bus and a vehicle collided on the Mt. Zion Ridge (Rt. 16) about one mile south of Calhoun Middle-High School.

Kelli Whytsell, superintendent of schools, who went to the scene, said there were no injuries, except one 17-year-old male student was reportedly transported by ambulance to Minnie Hamilton Health System for evaluation with minor back pain.

"It was unfortunate that one of our buses was in an accident this evening. We are thankful that all involved are ok. Our priority was the safety of the students, and we all were responding to assist in any way possible. On behalf of Calhoun County Schools, I would like to thank the first responders, state police, and school personnel that helped at the accident," said Whytsell.

Bus number is 25 was seriously damaged, with the bus being towed.

Students were taken off the bus with alternative transportation arranged, delivery being about one hour late.

School officials used the ParentLink system to contact parents.

State Police responded to the scene to investigate.

It was not learned if any citations were issued.
