UPDATE: THREE BODIES FOUND IN BRAXTON FIRE IDENTIFIED

UPDATE 1/5/2017 11 A.M. - Family members have identified the three people who were killed in a blaze in Braxton County and the two people who were injured.

Cathy Veasey, 57, died in the blaze along with her sons, Charles Veasey, 27, and Thomas Veasey, 26, that was reported about 7:30 a.m. Thursday in the 2700 block of Elk River Road between Frametown and Gassaway in the Rock Camp area.

Meanwhile, James Veasey, Cathy Veasey's husband, is hospitalized in the West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh. He was intubated Thursday, but has been moved down to a step-down unit, family members said. Thomas Veasey's girlfriend, Tina Dillon, also is being treated at the West Penn Burn Center.

UPDATE 1/4/2018 7 pm - Three bodies have been recovered after a house fire in Braxton County. State Fire Marshals believe all three victims are adults.

The fire happened on Elk River Road in the Sugar Creek area.

Throughout the day, crews were also working to locate two family members who were unaccounted for. Those two people have been found safe this evening.

Two people were injured in the fire and escaped with the help of neighbors. State Fire Marshals say one of the victims was taken to a burn treatment center in Pittsburgh. Their condition unknown.

ORIGINAL STORY - West Virginia fire marshals said there was one confirmed death after a residential fire in Braxton County Thursday morning. Two people were transported to the West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh, and officials are still searching for four other people.

The call came in about 7:30 a.m. regarding a house fire in the 2700 block of Elk River Road between Frametown and Gassaway in the Rock Camp area.

Fire marshals said the cause for the fire is unknown at this time. West Virginia fire marshals initially said three people had died in the fire, however just one death has been confirmed.

Frametown and Gassaway Fire Departments responded to the fire.

The National Guard is sending in a warming station for first responders as they are expected to be on scene all day.

At this time, Elk River Road remains closed to traffic.

Braxton County 911 dispatchers confirm that phone lines were damaged in the fire. About a thousand residents in that area are not able to call 911 so if there is an emergency they are asked to go to the Frametown Fire Department where firefighters can radio the 911 center.
