Macel L. Nichols Smith, 92 - Gay

Macel L. Nichols Smith, 92, of Gay, West Virginia died at 10:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2003, at her home.

She was born January 27, 1911, in Spencer, a daughter of the late Emory Porter and Verna Boothe West. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernie Nichols; her second husband, Thurman Smith; stepmother, Annabelle West; brothers, Lowell, Leland, Mayford, Ermine and Brice West; a sister, Florine West.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Nitro and attended the Peniel United Methodist Church, Peniel.

Survivors include two daughters, Mildred "Midge" Rhodes of Peniel and Loretta Skeen of Nitro; a brother, Emory Porter West, Jr. of Spencer; a sister, Eleanor Sharp of Spencer; grandchildren, Mark and Analee Rhodes of Hampton, VA, Marilynn and Jerald Greathouse of St. Albans, Maria and James Griffith of Charleston, Marcia Rhodes and Loren Whiting of Peniel; great grandchildren, Stephen and Mary Rhodes of Dunbar, Jesilynn Greathouse of St. Albans, Beth and Bryan Rhodes of Hampton, VA, Nicholas, Matthew and Rebeccah Griffith of Charleston; great-great grandchild, Isaiah Tose of St. Albans.

A funeral service will be conducted, Friday, December 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Clifford West and the Rev. Pam Ritchie officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, Spencer.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m on Thursday.
