DEER DAMAGE BILL $44 MILLION

(12/09/2003)
Hitting deer is a $44 million dollar problem in West Virginia.

A West Virginia Insurance Commission study has found that more than 28,000 deer damage claims were filed in 2002.

The average payout was $1,600.

Most of the accidents occurred between October and December during mating and hunting seasons.

Motorists who have only liability coverage likely would not file claims because liability insurance does not cover deer damage.
