EMERGENCY SERVICES LEVY UP FOR VOTE - Renewal Sought, No Increase In Taxes

(12/09/2003)
The renewal of the county Emergency Services Levy will go before voters on March 6, 2004.

The levy will remain at the same rates, with no increase in taxes.

Josh Johnson, Director of Calhoun EMS, said his agency will try and maintain services using the same level of funding.

The five year levy provides funds for three county fire departments, Calhoun EMS and the employment of a Deputy Sheriff.

County Clerk Richard Kirby asked the county commission for direction in appointing poll workers for the special election, which could not be held in conjunction with the May Primary.

Kirby, who has expressed concerns about the difficulty of obtaining poll workers, verified the rate of pay for workers at $100, with a $20 allowance for voter training.

County Commissioner Larry McCallister said the renewal of the levy is essential to continue providing the services.
