A three-year bill for damage done by deer to vehicles in West Virginia has been estimated at over $100 million, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The average collision costs about $4500, according to an agent for Nationwide Insurance in Beckley. This includes vehicle costs, medical bills and missed work.

West Virginia DNR reported about 14,000 car-deer accidents on state highways last year, many going unreported.
