CALHOUN'S PUBLIC PROPERTY ELIGIBLE FOR FLOOD ASSISTANCE - FEMA Will Assist Private Property Holders

(12/02/2003)
Calhoun public property has been declared eligible to recover damages for last month's flood.

Governor Wise said yesterday that county and local governments in 25 more counties are eligible for federal grants to help them recover from flooding.

The 25 counties join Boone, Clay, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan and Wayne counties as being eligible for FEMA grants.

Those grants help state, county and local governments pay for damage to public property or disaster response overtime for employees.

Newly eligible counties are Barbour, Braxton, Calhoun, Doddridge, Fayette, Gilmer, Greenbrier, Lewis, McDowell, Marion, Marshall, Mercer, Monroe, Nicholas, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Putnam, Raleigh, Ritchie, Summers, Taylor, Upshur, Webster, Wetzel and Wyoming.

Residents in 28 other counties, including Calhoun, have already been deemed eligible for individual assistance.

Flood victims can apply for federal aid by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency at 1-800-621-3362 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., seven days a week.
