There will a benefit auction Saturday, December 6, starting at 6 P. M. at the Creston Community Building. Proceeds go to help maintain the facility. There will be all sorts of goodies, Christmas items, cheese, pepperoni, etc. It would be an ideal time to come and swap yarns about the big bucks, the floods and other stories.

Rev. Carlos Nutter filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. church.

Mr. Dexterity asked that the Sassy Storekeeper look along the road, etc. and pick him up some antlers. A search on the world wide web revealed that several "potions" can be made with antlers and most of the usage would likely be by "aging" men.

Johnny Miller reported that on Saturday someone killed the biggest buck that he had ever seen out near the Cooper's Park. He said it was "huge". Several other nice bucks have been harvested although the kill is down.

The Annamoriah Cowpoke, who now lives down south, was visiting relatives and friends and doing some deer hunting. When he noted that he was a "changed man" he was asked if someone got after him with a sharp knife. He replied, "N-no, it was with a frying pan up against the side of the head."

Brandon Bunner, age 16, killed one of the bears that the DNR turned out in the area with a bow & arrow. It was a sow that weighed between 250 and 300 lb and it had been coming to the Bunner home, over on the Frame farm, on a regular basis looking for garbage.

Speaking of hunting, one now has to take a test and pay $78.50 to trap for mice and rats in California. Apparently the animal protection people want to protect vermin from those would kill such to keep down disease and pestilence.

A number of Creston residents and relatives from elsewhere gathered and had a community meal at the community building on Thanksgiving Day.

Anna Engelke who is working in Virginia came in for the Thanksgiving weekend and celebrated her birthday at a posh eatery in Parkersburg with family and friends.

Wilbur Schenerlein III, along with Jane, Nancy & Alvin Engelke feasted on some of the famous Sims barbecue at the Helen Morris residence near Grantsville.

Kenny the Mailman had a chance to visit at one of his favorite friend's house & obtain a fine meal in Calhoun County during the flooding but then a comely lady in a downriver county who thought she was being helpful said, "Why you can come down Route 5" and spoiled the plan.

While it has been reported that some gas will be sold elsewhere the outage at Hastings Station still has area wells shut in. A check over the weekend revealed that Cabot's Oak station is still not functional. One Ritchie County operator was reported to have laid off his men. While others have been ordered to shut in, Dominion has their wells wide open feeding into the line.

The class action suit that has been brought against Columbia Natural Resources in Roane County Circuit Court has stirred up a lot of interest. Serious charges have been brought against the energy giant which, at least was, a key part of the Rockefeller money machine.

Speaking of the Rockefellers, Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV said he approved the memo to use intelligence committee confidential information in the upcoming presidential campaign. George Soros, a billionaire who made a fortune manipulating currencies has said he wants a different president and has put his money into willing hands. Earlier he claimed credit for changing the governments in Slovakia, Croatia, Serbia and, most recently, Georgia (the one south of Russia). Earlier he promoted legalization of drugs and "mercy killing". He noted that he was disappointed when his father who was very sick did not want to "die quicker".

Drew Thomas, a spokesman for Martin Twist, reported that Martin now has over 1000 investors with the cash to drill Trenton/Black River and Devonian shale wells in W. Va. Twist who was formerly based in Louisville but moved across the river to Indiana has drilled wells in Roane, Jackson and Kanawha Counties as well as a mystery deep well in Kentucky. Presently he is operating under the name of Cherokee Drilling.

Eastern American continues to drill their deep well near Gandeeville. It is said that they are not far from drilling into the pay.

Local residents woke up to a snow covered landscape Saturday morning & although the snow stuck to the roads on the high places, bridges and cold spots there were no reports of ice related wrecks. At other times insects have been flying around and, not so long back, frogs were hopping across the roadways.

Sue Farnsworth reported that she and Gary have been busy moving to their new home at Slate.

The Gast family has been spending time at their place in the graveyard at the site of the old Rose Hill church.
