KANAWHA SNIPER STILL AT LARGE

(11/23/2003)
More than three months have passed since three people were fatally shot by a sniper in Kanawha County.

The TV satellite trucks from the news channels have come and gone, and who fired the fatal shots - unknown.

It is still a mystery who killed Gary Carrier Jr., Jeanie Patton and Okey Meadows Jr., although 73 investigators have followed up on 2,900 leads.

All seemed to be doing routine things when they were gunned down.

Carrier, 44, of South Charleston was talking on a pay telephone at a Charleston Go-Mart when he was shot Aug. 10. Four days later, Patton, 31, and Meadows, 26, both of Campbells Creek, were killed within 90 minutes of each other at rural convenience stores about 10 miles apart. She while filling her car with gas, and he while buying milk at a pay window.

Meanwhile, Kanawha County is back to "routine" murders, which appear to be ever increasing in the capitol city.

There is still a $100,000 reward for information leading to the sniper.
