1092ND ENGINEERS WILL REMAIN IN IRAQ - Prayer Vigil Scheduled Monday

(11/21/2003)
About 500 members of the West Virginia National Guard will remain on active duty in Iraq until sometime next year.

The 1092nd Engineer Battalion, which is based in Parkersburg and has detachments throughout the region, was deployed to Iraq early this year. The 156th Military Police unit will also serve at least one year in Iraq.

The 1092nd detachment in Spencer has soldiers from Roane, Calhoun and the region.

Guard spokesman Major Mike Cadle says the troops are expected to return to West Virginia next summer.

A prayer vigil for the members of the 1092nd National Guard members will be conducted on Monday, November 24th at 5 p.m. on the Spencer Courthouse lawn. The organizers are inviting residents from the area to attend.
