CALHOUN SCHOOL BOARD MEETING - Summary Of Minutes

The Calhoun County Board of Education met at the Office of the Superintendent; Mt. Zion, West Virginia; Monday, November 17, 2003. Members present, Ralph Cunningham, Richard Fitzwater, Carlene Frederick, Donald Harris and Burl Simers, also Ronald Blankenship, Secretary.

Mr. Cunningham reported on the October 28, 2003 CGCC meeting and Mr. Cartwright reported on the October 30, 2003 RESA V meeting.

OLD BUSINESS:

Mr. Cunningham moved and Mrs. Frederick seconded that the following policies be approved as presented: Policy to Promote School Board Effectiveness; Promotion/Retention Policy. Motion carried unanimously.

NEW BUSINESS:

Mr. Cunningham moved and Mr. Harris seconded that the following new business be approved as presented: Volunteer Agreements: 1. Bob Bailey - Calhoun Middle/High School; 2. Barbara Heery - Pleasant Hill School; 3. Tim Moore - Pleasant Hill School; 4. Cathi Skedel - Pleasant Hill School; 5. Barbara Bunch - Pleasant Hill School; 6. Henry Cooper - Calhoun Middle/High.

Lights On Proposals: Heather Paxton - Psychology Intern

Out-of-State Conference Request: Donald Poage - Louisville, KY October 29-31, 2003.

Employee Leaves and Absences Policy - DRAFT; Activity Student Drug Testing Policy - DRAFT; School Road 16/28 Extension.

Home School Requests: Patrick and Angela Dye - Aleah Dye - Kindergarten; Glen and Diane Yoak - Misty Yoak - Grade 4; Graduation Requirements Policy Revision - DRAFT; Approval of Supplemental Programs Policy - DRAFT; Half Day Release - Alicia Richards - Spring 2004.

PERSONNEL:

Mr. Cunningham moved and Mr. Harris seconded that the Board enter into Executive Session at 7:14 p.m. for discussion of personnel. Motion carried unanimously.

Mr. Cunningham moved and Mr. Harris seconded that the Board return to regular session at 7:32 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.

Upon the Superintendent's recommendation, Mr. Cunningham moved and Mr. Simers seconded that the following matters be approved: Resignations - Joan Gordon - Custodian, Calhoun Middle/High - Effective 10/27/03; Salim Lazreg - Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach; Donna Burge-Tetrick - Principal - Arnoldsburg School - Effective 12/12/03.

Job Postings - Custodian III - Calhoun Middle/High; Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach; Principal - Arnoldsburg School; Tutor Teacher - Arnoldsburg School (Lights On).

Employment - Chris Morris - Assistant Varsity Wrestling Coach; Joseph Taylor - Substitute Bus Operator (Pending Certification); Sharon Lynch - Substitute Teacher; Jill Metz - Custodian III - Calhoun Middle/High (Effective November 18, 2003); Angela Sims - Homebound Teacher (Effective November 10, 2003); Donald Price, Principal - Arnoldsburg School; Chandra Wood - Substitute Teacher; Tiffany Barr - Tutor (Lights On); Misty Burkhalter - Tutor (Lights On); Tiffany Swisher - Tutor (Lights On); Henry Mullins - Substitute Teacher; Tara Thomas - Tutor (Lights On); Henry Mullins - Substitute Teacher Change of Status - Dwayne Yatauro - Addition of HVAC Mechanic II, Classification - Pay Grade F to G Effective 07/01/03; Prior Years Request - Susan Metheney (2 years); Termination of Contract - Dennis Dickson (Effective November 3, 2003).

Mr. Cunningham moved and Mr. Harris seconded that the following financial matters be approved:

A. Invoices - $325,235.55; B. Supplements - $185,226.08; C. Transfer - $346,748.51; D. Financial Statement - October.

Motion carried with Mr. Simers abstaining on the Bowles Rice invoice.

BOARD CONCERNS:

Multi-Purpose Room - Arnoldsburg; Middle School Playground.

The next meeting will be Monday, December 15, 2003 at the Office of the Superintendent; Mt. Zion, West Virginia.
