Grantsville fireman enter burning dwelling

Quick action by the Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department brought a house fire under control at Nobe last night, a short distance from Route 16, Five Forks.

Billowing smoke was pouring from the Dave and Dot Curry residence when firemen arrived.

Dot Curry was alone when the fire broke out and fled uninjured.

Fire Chief Jim Yoak said the fire apparently started in a basement furnace shortly after 6 p.m., sending flames up a flue box into the main floor of the house, damaging a section of the kitchen-living area and then the attic

Cold wind was sweeping across Nobe Ridge, with the wind chill temperature very low.

Calhoun EMS also responded to the scene.
