REDISTRICTING: TALK OF TOWN - Calhoun In New Congressional District?

(04/01/2001)
Lawmakers in Charleston were buzzing this week after the release of the Census 2000 numbers, wondering how new lines might be drawn for elected positions. They say work will begin on the situation shortly after the current legislative session is over.

The Legislature redraws the lines every ten years, based on county population. It will realign the state's three congressional districts, districts for the l00-member House of Delegates and the 44-member Senate. Each congressional district must contain about one-third of West Virginia's population.

Some prognosticators are predicting Calhoun may become part of Sen. Alan Mollohan's district.
