MAJOR FIRE AT HASTINGS TRANSMISSION STATION - Regional Gas Producers Have Shut Lines

(10/31/2003)
3:30 PM - A major fire broke out at Hasting's Transmission pump station in Wetzel County before noon today, causing the facility to cease operations.

Details on what caused the fire and the extent of damage to the large facility is not yet available.

Phillip Earl with Dominion in Grantsville said the fire had been brought under control at 2:30 p.m.

Earl said no one was seriously injured.

Hastings processes nearly all the gas from Calhoun and dozens of neighboring counties.

Earl said all Calhoun operations had been advised to shut the gas in, that Hastings "would be down indefinitely and it would be some time before it would go back on line."

Earl said it would affect gas sales from the region.

A spectator said dozens of regional fire departments responded to the blaze.
