FIREMEN CONTINUE SEARCH FOR SUBMERGED AUTO - Jason Rider Transferred To Charleston

(10/30/2003)
Members of the Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department continued the search yesterday evening for an auto that submerged in the Little Kanawha River. Grantsville resident Dustin McCormick lost his life Tuesday night in the crash.

The Ford Focus apparently went out of control on State Route 5 west at the Grantsville town limits, plunging over a steep embankment, striking a tree and sinking into the river.

The river level has been up and the water running swiftly.

Jason Rider, 26, of Grantsville, a passenger in the car, was transferred to Charleston Area Medical Center yesterday evening from Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center for further evaluation and treatment. His condition was described as satisfactory by family members.

Funeral arrangements for McCormick are pending at Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville.
