WEST NILE IN 34 COUNTIES - Gilmer, Ritchie And Roane Report Cases

Thirty-four of West Virginia's 55 counties are now reporting West Nile Virus in birds. No birds with the disease have been sent by the Calhoun County Department of Health.

The latest positive for the virus is from Logan County.

Gilmer, Ritchie, and Roane counties have received positive tests.

West Nile is spread to people by the bite of an infected mosquito.

A Berkeley County senior citizen is the only human in West Virginia to be diagnosed with West Nile this year, in addition to detection in three horses.

Mosquito activity will drop with freezing temperatures.
