CALHOUN WILL HAVE "LAST MAN CLUB" - Will Honor Last Survivor Of World War II

(11/02/2003)
World War II veterans are dying at the rate of 1,100 every day. There has been a significant effort to capture the stories and contributions of what has been called "The Greatest Generation."

The Calhoun County Committee on Aging, along with local veterans of WW II, have formed a Last Man Club to track the last surviving veteran of that war for special recognition.

CCCOA Director Mike Ritchie said "I've always been moved by the presence of these men and woman among us. It is difficult to accept in a few more years, they will no longer be with us."

The following are guidelines to become a member of the club:

* Must have been honorably discharged

* Must register with the club to be considered for recognition

* Must have entered service from Calhoun County

* Must submit name, current address, change of address, designate someone to notify the club in the event of death.

* Do not have to be a current resident of Calhoun County.

Calhoun County Committee on Aging, P.O. Box 434, Grantsville, WV 26147 is the address for all correspondence. There are no fees for membership.

Please submit name, rank, branch of service, and a brief summary of military experience to the above address. Questions, please call Mike Ritchie at 304-354-7017.
