Dan Trembley the surveyor was attending to business in Creston one day last week. Among other things he did some survey work at the Creston Community Building.

Jane & Nancy Engelke have been in Atlanta looking at and acquiring the newest fashions for Jane's store.

Lizzy Ferrell opened up Ferrell's Game Room at the old Burning Springs store. It will be open from 2 P. M. till 11 P. M. Thursday through Tuesday. No drugs, alcohol or under age use of tobacco products will be allowed.

Tommy Gay Wright was among those who came in from Ohio for the opening weekend of bow season. There were lots of hunters out & about looking for some early venison. From the sounds of things a "special firearms gun season" was in on Pete's Run on Sunday afternoon. Others reported that there were lots of vehicles parked in the woods on Sunday -- just checking, no doubt.

Area residents have been putting up no hunting posters.

Deputy Peck was attending to business in Creston one day last week.

Matthew Copen came up with some spectacular old boat pictures. He has a photograph of the "Anine" and the "Sunny Times" the latter of which was obviously an excursion type boat. He also has a copy of a 1958 Wirt County Journal with the report on the deer season. Back then, the big harvest bagged 34 bucks. Locally Burton Marks and the late Basil Wix & Albert Wilson were listed as lucky hunters.

Area residents have been feasting on squirrel and other tasty wild game. There are lots and lots of wild turkeys and the bear has returned to the Creston Heights section.

The Gasts had a big gathering out at the old Rose Hill graveyard over the weekend.

The folks who live at the old Starcher house on the former M. F. Simmons place on the ridge at the head of Lost Run have two ducks with little ducklings.

On November 1 there will be a litter clean up at Creston in the morning and the usual auction in the evening. All are welcome to help.

Local cattlemen continue to be amazed at the prices good animals have been fetching. On the other hand the price of hogs is very low.

The price of local crude fell $1 to $27.25/bbl. One gent, from a nearby county said he was advised not to sell his oil because when the Iranian atom bombs are neutralized (before they hit Jerusalem?) the price will skyrocket. It is hard to know what to make of all this but the Persians are listed as part of the axis of evil. They certainly have come down a long way since Darius ran things over there.

It was reported that the big pipeline to North Carolina and Florida that Dominion Transmission had scheduled from Cornwall Station on the Elk River has run into difficulty. It had been anticipated that 90% of the capacity of the line would already be spoken for by electric utility firms but only 12% of the capacity has been sold.

Euell H. Russell and Jeremy Ferrell are among those who are on a big trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It was understood that the Old Furniture Salesman was the leader of the trip and Rose went along to keep an eye on him.

It was understood that someone else told Mr. Dexterity where he was to go the other evening. Apparently, he did get to attend the pig roast after the rehearsal.

Some local residents attended the Camp Barbe fund raiser Friday evening. The Earl of Elkview, who is running for Secretary of State, provided musical entertainment. Jean Waters sent him a picture of him as a young man when he played on Ward O'Dell's ball team down at Pinch. Some feel that the Sec. of State's position should be abolished after it was abused by the current occupant to campaign full time for governor.

Alvin Wiles and Euell Russell were among those calling on C. Glen Arthur.

Jane and Nancy Engelke returned from a trip to Atlanta, GA. They attended the fall buyers market at America's Mart. They reported great finds which will be available soon at Elizabeth Michaels in Parkersburg. Nancy stated that the fall color was very poor this year. They enjoyed visiting family in North Carolina on the way down and back.
