The Creston fall foliage poker run will be held Saturday, October 11, starting at 9 A. M. at the Creston Community Building. Riders may leave immediately after signup. There will be food and door prizes as well as a 50/50 drawing. Those with questions should call Donna Sue at 275-3202.

There will be an aquaculture workshop Saturday, October 25 starting at 9 A. M. at the Elizabeth M. E. church. After a morning session and lunch at the church the afternoon session will be at the Palestine Bass Hatchery. Dr. Kenneth Semmons from WVU will present the program. Registration is limited with an Oct. 20 deadline. Those interested should call the county agent Patty Morrison at 275-3101. A fee of $7.50 covers the meal and registration.

When it was learned that the Sassy Storekeeper was off on Friday the Mail Man took off and, then, it was learned that Mr. Dexterity took off too. Then John decided to take off also. One might conclude that he had to check on his large rock investment seeing that others were on the prowl.

Nancy Hall is taking chemotherapy treatments again. She has had a very rough time.

Jane and Nancy Engelke attended the Miss W. Va. USA contest at Flatwoods. Jane participated as a contestant and placed in the top 10.

Several area residents attended and participated in the Pioneer Day celebration in Elizabeth on Saturday. Rain and drizzle did not dampen the spirits of those who were there. In addition to the educational exhibits, crafts, goodies, etc. there was lots of visiting among folks who hadn't seen each other for years, or in some cases, first time encounters with folks who were very interesting. The exhibit on the Little Kanawha River remains at the old Coplin Clinic for those who have not been there yet. Several local folks called at the Kanawha Hotel in Elizabeth.

The price of local crude rose back to $27.25/bbl perhaps reflecting attempts by Hamas, the PLO and others to annihilate Israel.

A wag came up with an explanation of why America has an "oil shortage". The reason is that nobody bothered to check the oil . . . we didn't know we were getting low. The reason for that is purely geographical. All our oil is in Alaska, the Appalachian Basin, Texas, California and Oklahoma and all our dipsticks are in Washington, D. C.

Charles Russell was consulting with Dr. deSousa and Dr. Bennett. His brother Euell was also consulting with Dr. Bennett.

The Creston Well Service crew took first aid and CPR training at the Minnie Hamilton Health Care center. Mr. Ellis from Minnie Hamilton gave an excellent presentation.

Mr. & Mrs. "Cooter" Marks and family were attending to business in Grantsville.

County Commissioner Robert Lowe, along with his parents, were attending to business in Creston Saturday evening.

There is talk that the game room in Burning Springs will open up again. In other Burning Springs news Dave McKain & his crew have been doing a lot of work at the park at Burning Springs at the location of the old Rathbone Flowing well.

Jacques Frost was calling in the Creston area. Apparently he didn't care to understand that French 'guests' aren't in the best of standing, especially since new French SAMs were found in Iraq.
