CHALLENGE WV SEEKS QUALITY EDUCATION THROUGH COMMUNITY SCHOOLS - Conference Friday In Huntington

(10/06/2003)
An education advocacy group that challenges school consolidation and quality education in West Virginia will hold its annual conference Friday, October 10.

Challenge WV will meet at Drinko Library at Marshall University, with special presentations on distance learning starting at 10 a.m.

Challenge WV is a statewide organization committed to maintaining and improving small community schools. Linda Martin, Director of the group, says one of the main goals is to reform education so that citizens have a voice in policy decisions and every child has an opportunity to receive a first-class education.

The Lincoln County school consolidation case, which forces about 400 students to attend schools in other counties or travel three to four hours each day to school, has been on the groups agenda.

A lawsuit has originated over a Lincoln County case, which directly challenges the loss of quality education by closing community schools.

A $10 registration fee, which includes lunch, can be sent to Linda Martin, 801 Godon Drive, Charleston 25303. Info www.challengewv.org
