THUNDER RIDGE RACETRACK IS MOVING AHEAD - "Too Good A Project To Go Away..."

(08/28/2003)
Thunder Ridge racetrack at Flatwoods is still moving ahead, according to Joe Mattioli, a consultant for the proposed motorcross track and complex at Flatwoods.

"We're moving forward and looking at all our options," he said.

The project, which is suppose to bring jobs and revenue to central West Virginia, was rejected for a $13 million grant, as was a second racetrack project in Kanawha County.

The Flatwoods project is being supported by developer John Skidmore.

Mattioli operates tracks in Virginia and Tennessee,. He said the group is looking for other sources of state and local government funding.

"This is too good of a project to go away quietly," Mattioli said.

He indicated a possible legal challenge regarding the grant process.
