GLENVILLE STATE FACES DEFICITS WITH FEES - Commuters Now Charged $50

(08/25/2003)
Glenville State College, like all state institutions is facing a continued financial crunch.

The college's most recent effort to stay afloat is a new $50 fee for students who commute to the school. The fee will affect about 600 students who commute.

GSC says the fee is necessary to support the college's food service provider, Aramark Food Services, Inc. Aramark provides food for the dining hall, a snack bar, a coffee shop and a convenience store on campus.

The college says money comes up short for the service because commuters do not frequent the businesses at Aramark shops.

The college says the $50 fee will be placed in a "flex cash" account which students can spend on campus.

The college has also instituted a pay-as-you-participate plan for those signed up for sports programs.
