C. Glen Arthur celebrated his 70th birthday. Among those calling on Glen were Carl & Donna Sue Ferrell, Glenna Jean and Austin Westfall, Alvin Wiles, Euell Russell and Robert Lynch.

Wirt County's heroine Jessica Lynch visited recently with her oldest relative Seaward Lynch, age 95, who is her late great grandfather's first cousin. Seaward has a picture of the comely Jessica with him on the table at his bedside.

Ray Cunningham has been on the sick list and was consulting his physician.

Anna Engelke, who is working over in Virginia, spent the weekend visiting and was among those who took in the Parkersburg Homecoming. The Wirt County Fair Queen, Ashlee Small, was moved to front of the parade and some thought she was the Parkersburg homecoming queen. Those who attended the fireworks display got more than what they bargained for when a 12" mortar went off too soon setting off 3500 rockets and such on the barge in less than two minutes. Luckily, no one was killed or seriously injured.

Those visiting Dorothy Graham included Michael Graham, Amy Grimmet and sons Ethan & Austin, Ruth and Dale Schrader.

Jim Bush laid down a bunch of hay in the Creston area and then it rained again twice in two days. On Friday evening the power was off for most Crestonites for several hours. Some places had washouts.

Euell Russell was consulting with Congresswoman Shelly Moore Capito when she was visiting constituents in Grantsville.

It was reported that the powers that be (those who run the state and have for decades) have decided that Junior Jackson is to be the new governor. Presently he heads the State Board of Education. Jackson's father was formerly State Senate President and Lloyd Jr. formerly also represented Lincoln County in the Legislature. Gaston (Dee & Rachel's Ex) has been calling up the money men and giving them reminders.

The sniper attacks in Kanawha County have touched area residents as the Patton woman was the niece of Midge Rader. The Pattons formerly lived in Roane County.

Jerry Crank spent the weekend at his trailer on the West Fork near Creston.

Those who have been out and about report seeing several bucks with big racks that are still in the velvet.

It was reported that the Great Pifu beat his own record in catching stick fish with a report that he caught his longest ever "stickfish". His partner, The Canada Fisherman smoked him when it came to hauling in Northern Pike & Walleye. There was no report on who caught the most carp.

On nights when it has been clear enough, area residents have been viewing Mars which is now much closer to earth that usually is the case.

Farm reports are due in by the end of the month. Otherwise the folks down at the Mouth of Elk River mandate that land is (unless owned by out of state outfits) held for development of shopping centers, condominiums and other high value uses.

The price of local Penn grade crude oil is now $27.75/bbl.

Former Creston resident Lloyd Mullinex passed away after an extended illness. He had been a longtime employee of Roberts' Store in Elizabeth.

And then there is the story about Jeff Westfall who helped change a tire for the pregnant ladies out on the interstate. Details can be obtained, it is said.
