GOV. WISE REPORTEDLY NOT SEEKING RE-ELECTION

(08/06/2003)
Metro News has reported that Governor Bob Wise has definitely made the decision not to seek re-election to a second term.

The Governor's office would not confirm the report, according to the news service. Several sources with knowledge of the Governor's intentions have said Wise has decided not to run. They have said that Wise is putting his relationship with his wife and family first.

Wise's political future has been a hot topic since the story surfaced about his affair with a state worker.

A news report last week said the Governor's wife, Sandy, has been house shopping in Washington, D.C. where the family lived when he was a congressman.

Wise is said to be notifying friends and supporters of his decision.

First in line to run for governor if Wise bows out , is former Sen. Lloyd Jackson from Lincoln County

. The only other Democrat in the race is Secretary of State Joe Manchin, although state Treasurer John Perdue is also considering seeking the governorship.
