KOREAN WAR HAS NEVER BEEN OVER - We Honor Those Who Served

(07/26/2003)
By Bob Weaver

The Korean War has never been declared over.

Fifty years later it teeters on a truce agreement, with shots still being fired across the truce line.

It has been called the forgotten war, sandwiched between World War II and the Vietnam War.

It was a war from which we have learned few lessons.

Not unlike wars since, it was started by a political error.

Not unlike wars since, it dwells painfully in the minds of soldiers who fought there, experiencing the political frustrations that prevented "winning."

It was a war of "grunts," mired deep in a hostile environment.

Not unlike wars since, it became a "saving face" situation for American politicians.

It was a war that Calhoun men went off to fight, and five never came back.

Thanks to Norma Knotts Shaffer's Calhoun History and Genealogy we honor them.
