UNDERWOOD COLLAPSES AT I-79 REST STOP - Admitted To CAMC

(07/24/2003)
Former Governor Cecil Underwood collapsed at a Gassaway rest area along I-79 yesterday. He is undergoing tests at a Charleston hospital.

Underwood's daughter, Sharon, said that her father was driving to Pittsburgh on Interstate 79 from his Charleston home. She said he began feeling fatigued so he stopped and fainted.

CAMC spokesman Andy Wessels say doctors have determined his heart rate was very low.

The 80-year-old Underwood had heart surgery in February.
