KIDS LEARN ABOUT SAFETY HAZARDS - Participants Experience "Smoke House"

Several agencies presented safety information The famous Crash Test Dummies failed to fasten their seat belts and were being taken to the hospital by Calhoun EMS Yesterday was Kids Safety Day, held at Calhoun Middle/High School. It was designed to inform young people about safety hazards and safety precautions, and dozens of groups attended several presentations at the school campus. Several county groups and agencies participated in the event, which was sponsored by RHEP, FRN, WVU Extension Services and Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center. Beth Carpenter, coordinator for Calhoun's Energy Express, had her group participate in Safety Day Vienna Fire Department taught kids how to escape a burning house Instructor says "Close to floor, down backward" Kids want "real air," although smoke house uses fake smoke Joe Tanner (Arnoldsburg VFD) talks about fire services GVFD explains rescue, breathing apparatus and extraction equipment Sonny Lowers (Upper West Fork VFD) explains water pumps and hoses Puppet master Shari Johnson uses puppets to teach safety
