PVT. JESSICA LYNCH RECEIVES MILITARY HONORS - Bronze Star, Purple Heart And Prisoner Of War Medal

Former POW Jessica Lynch has been awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Prisoner of War medals. The ceremony took place yesterday at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

The Bronze Star is given for meritorious combat service, a Purple Heart is most often awarded to those wounded in combat, and the POW for being held captive during wartime.

Lt. Gen. James B. Peake, U.S. Army surgeon general, made the presentation to the 20-year-old Army supply clerk from Palestine before family, hospital staff and Army personnel.

Pvt. Lynch is returning to her home in Palestine, Wirt County today.
