OIL AND GAS MUSEUM PLACED ON NATIONAL REGISTER

(07/11/2003)

The Oil and Gas Museum building in Parkersburg was placed on the National Register of Historic Places yesterday. Most area residents know it as the W.H. Smith building. The museum contains equipment, documents and artifacts from the state's great oil and gas booms. David McKain, curator of the museum and author of oil and gas history, has been the driving force behind the project, including the preservation of the Rathbone Well at Burning Springs.
