(07/09/2003)
A 22-year-old Burnt House, Gilmer County man has been identified as the person struck by a car on Little Bear Fork on July 3rd. Michael McHenry was taken to Roane General Hospital after the incident.

McHenry and two companions, David Wine of Burnt House and Ryan Scott of Smithville, was walking east on U. S. 33-119 about 9 p.m. when they reported a hit-and-run, according to Deputy Sheriff Ron Bandy.

McHenry reported a car driven by a woman with three male passengers struck him on purpose.

He said the car passed by, turned around and came back. The female driver and a male passenger in the front seat were arguing. McHenry said the woman exclaimed "You don't think I'll hit him. I'll hit him!," after which she reportedly ran him down.

McHenry has been released from Roane General Hospital.

Deputy Sheriff Bandy issued a bulletin for a vehicle with Maine license plates.
